Continuing up from Santa Cruz is a quick stop in Pescadero. Pescadero is a great stop before heading into Half Moon Bay when driving north on the coast.
Pescadero, CA
Pescadero is a small unincorporated town on the coast of California along HWY 1. While it’s a small town, it boasts amazing views of the Pacific Coastline and is home to some of the oldest redwood trees! The lush forestry makes it great for hiking and camping. So, don’t skip this town and Butano State Park for one.
Pidgeon Point Lighthouse
While not directly in the town of Pescadero, the Pidgeon Point Lighthouse is often associated with Pescadero when it comes to geographical location and tourism. The active lighthouse is just a couple miles south of the center of town, and is quite a popular attraction.
The lighthouse sits at the tip of the coastal bluff overseeing the beautiful Pacific Ocean. There is ample roadside parking nearby on a mostly paved street.
Once parked, we made way to view the lighthouse up close. Most path ways are carefully marked, so stay on the trail. While the lighthouse looks old, it is quite a beauty inside. All is invited inside where you will be greeted with state park employees with great amazing historical knowledge of the lighthouse. The giant light fixture inside was sure the star of the show.
After exploring the lighthouse, don’t be quick to leave. Head outside and view the coastline from the balcony or cliff side. You never know what you may see! We saw whales in a distance! From the balcony, you can see whales in a distance.
